Electricity Becomes Expensive by 8 Paisas Per Unit
According to the latest notification issued by NEPRA, power tariff rates have been raised by 8 paisas per unit nationwide.
The decision has been made under the monthly adjustment for August 2025, and the revised rates will be reflected in October’s electricity bills.
Increase Applicable to All Consumers, Including K-Electric
NEPRA confirmed that the price hike will also apply to K-Electric consumers, as per government policy guidelines.
This means electricity consumers in Karachi and other parts of the country will see a slight rise in their upcoming bills.
CPPA Suggested a Higher Increase
Earlier, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had proposed a 19 paisas per unit increase in its adjustment request to NEPRA.
However, NEPRA only approved an 8 paisas per unit rise after reviewing the overall cost and power generation data.
Why the Increase Was Approved
NEPRA stated that the tariff adjustment was necessary due to fluctuations in fuel cost, generation mix, and exchange rates during August 2025.
These adjustments are part of NEPRA’s monthly fuel cost mechanism, which ensures that power companies recover changes in generation costs.
Impact on Consumers
While the increase of 8 paisas per unit may seem minor, it adds pressure on consumers already facing rising utility costs across the country.
Experts believe that fuel cost adjustments have become more frequent due to global energy price volatility.
